Chapter 1

The moment Seraphina Cole signed the divorce papers, her husband's mistress moved into their bedroom — wearing the necklace Seraphina had designed for their anniversary.

She didn't cry. She didn't scream. She picked up her phone and called her secretary: "Greenlight the acquisition. Buy Sterling Group. All of it."

Three years. She had spent three years hiding her identity as the CEO of Ashworth Empire, the largest conglomerate in New York, pretending to be a nobody — all because she loved Damien Sterling.

What a satisfying waste.

"You're finally being reasonable." Damien leaned against the doorframe of his study, loosening his tie with one hand while sliding the signed papers into a folder. He didn't even look at her. "I've arranged a car to take you to your parents' place. Try not to make a scene."

Seraphina almost laughed.

Her parents' place. The same parents who had sold her into this marriage to secure a business deal, then spent three years reminding her how grateful she should be.

"I don't need your car," she said calmly. "I don't need anything from you."

Damien finally glanced up, something flickering in his eyes — not guilt, not sadness, but mild annoyance, like she was a task on his checklist that refused to be completed quietly.

"Sera, don't be dramatic. You knew this was coming. Vivienne and I—"

"Vivienne." Seraphina repeated the name slowly. Vivienne Lane. Her college roommate. The woman who had cried on Damien's shoulder about her "difficult life" while secretly feeding him lies about Seraphina for three straight years.

"She needs me," Damien said, his voice dropping into that soft, protective tone Seraphina had once foolishly believed was reserved for her. "She's fragile. She doesn't have anyone else."

Seraphina stared at him. Truly stared. The sharp jawline, the cold grey eyes, the expensive suit — she had memorized every detail of this man's face during countless sleepless nights, waiting for him to come home. Waiting for a scrap of warmth.

"You're right," she said. "She doesn't have anyone else. But neither did I. The difference is, I stopped waiting."

She turned to leave.

"One more thing." Damien's voice stopped her at the door. "The Ashworth contract — the one Sterling Group has been chasing for two years. My team is meeting their CEO next week. Don't do anything to embarrass me before then."

Seraphina's hand froze on the doorknob. A slow, bitter smile curved her lips, though Damien couldn't see it.

The Ashworth contract. The one his entire company's survival depended on. The one he'd been begging, groveling, pulling every string to secure.

"Don't worry," she said softly. "You'll meet the CEO of Ashworth Empire soon enough."

She walked out without looking back.

The moment she stepped outside, a black Maybach was already waiting. Her assistant, Elliot, opened the door and handed her a tablet. "Ma'am, the board approved the acquisition. Sterling Group's stock is already dropping. Shall I proceed with Phase Two?"

Seraphina slid into the car and glanced at the tablet. On the screen, Damien's company was bleeding red.

"Not yet," she said. "Let him have his meeting first. I want to see his face when he realizes who he's been married to."

Elliot nodded. "And your family? Your father has called seven times."

Seraphina's jaw tightened. "Tell him his investment paid off. I'm officially divorced. He got what he wanted."

As the car pulled away from the Sterling mansion, Seraphina looked back one last time at the house where she had spent three years being invisible.

No more.

She pulled out her phone and dialed a number. "It's me. Schedule the Ashworth Empire press conference for Friday. Full media coverage."

A pause on the other end. "Ma'am, are you sure? Once your identity goes public—"

"I've hidden long enough." Her voice was steel wrapped in silk. "It's time New York meets the real Seraphina Cole."

She hung up and closed her eyes. Behind her lids, she could still see Damien's indifferent face as he handed her the divorce papers. The way he hadn't even uncapped the pen for her.

Fine. He wanted her gone?

She'd leave. But she'd take his entire world with her.
