He Stole My Baby, Turns Out I'm a Billionaire HeiressCh. 1 of 14

Chapter 1

To steal my newborn daughter, my husband drugged me during delivery and told me she was stillborn.

When I woke up screaming for my baby, the nurse handed me an empty blanket and a death certificate.

Three floors above me, my husband's mistress was posting Instagram photos, captioning a newborn girl "our miracle baby."

I ripped out my IV and ran.

…

Let me back up six hours.

My name is Elara Sinclair. Though no one in this city knows that name — not even my husband.

To him, I'm Ellie Quinn, a nobody waitress he married out of pity.

That's the cover story I've maintained for four years while hiding from my family's enemies.

The Sinclairs own Crescent Holdings — $6.2 billion in real estate, media, and pharmaceuticals across three states. After an assassination attempt killed my mother and nearly killed me, my grandfather sent me underground.

New name. New city. New life.

I met Daniel Cross at the diner where I worked double shifts. He was charming, persistent, and seemed safe.

We married quickly. I got pregnant even quicker.

I thought I'd finally built something real.

This morning, I woke up at 5 AM with contractions fourteen minutes apart. Daniel drove me to the hospital, his hand steady on my back.

"You're going to be an amazing mother, Ellie."

At the hospital, he insisted on a private suite. "Only the best for my girls."

He handed me orange juice. "Drink. You need energy for labor."

The juice tasted slightly bitter, but contractions were ripping through me and I didn't question it.

By the time they wheeled me into delivery, my vision was blurring. The room swam in and out of focus.

"Something's wrong," I slurred to the nurse. "I can't... I can't stay awake."

"It's just exhaustion, honey. Push!"

I heard my daughter cry.

One perfect, shattering cry.

Then everything went black.

…

When I woke, the room was empty.

No baby. No Daniel. No flowers or congratulations cards.

Just an empty bassinet and silence.

I slammed the call button. A nurse rushed in — a different one from delivery.

"My baby. Where's my baby?"

Her face crumbled. "Mrs. Cross... I'm so sorry. Your daughter was stillborn."

"No." The word tore from my throat. "I heard her cry. I HEARD HER CRY!"

"Sometimes the brain creates false memories during traumatic deliveries. The sedation—"

"I wasn't supposed to be sedated! Where is my husband?"

The nurse placed a folder on my bed. Inside: a death certificate. Baby Girl Cross. Time of death: 4:47 PM.

My hands were shaking so violently the paper rattled.

"I want to see her body."

The nurse's eyes darted to the door. "She's... already been taken to the funeral home. Your husband made arrangements while you were unconscious."

Already taken?

What kind of hospital releases a body before the mother even wakes up?

I grabbed my phone from the bedside table, fingers trembling as I pulled up Daniel's number.

That's when I saw the notification.

An Instagram post from a woman named Vanessa Moore — Daniel's "former" colleague.

The photo showed a newborn baby girl, still pink and wrinkled, wrapped in a cream cashmere blanket I recognized.

I'd bought that blanket. It was in my hospital bag.

The caption read: "She's here. Our little miracle. Daddy and I have waited so long for you. 💕"

The timestamp was forty-three minutes ago.

Daniel was tagged. He'd already liked the photo.

And in the background of the image, barely visible but unmistakable — the window of this hospital's third floor VIP wing.

My daughter was alive. She was three floors above me.

And my husband had given her to another woman.
